Any Jewish nurses worked in the Arab states?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some feedback from Jewish nurses who might have gone abroad to work as staff nurses and/or educators in countries such as Qatar and the UAE. If so, would you be willing to share what your experiences were like ... did you experience any anti-Semitism, did you feel unsafe in any way ... or was it all good? I understand that there are no synagogues in these countries, but I'm ok with that ... I'm not religious, just culturally Jewish, non-practicing.

My understanding from some Jewish nurses that have applied is that agencies that staff travelers tend to screen out many nurses on various issues, such social/cultural issues that might be at odds with Middle Eastern sensibilities, sme of which shows up on the background check. Also, at the time that I considered applying, appearance was an issue. Thus many Jewish (and nonJewish nurses) probably got screened out.

I do know that of several nurses that applied with similar qualifications, the ones with the stereotypical names got declined. Though admittedly this was in the 90s and things may be different now.

Another issue, is regardless of religion/culture, if you try to apply and you have ever been through/in Israel on your passport - that stamp will disqualify you from enterring many of the Middle Eastern nations. Thus many nurses that wish to visit Israel, will do so at the end of their two years in ME, when they do not intend to return.
