Any insight on VA Palo Alto?

I applied recently and was just curious if anyone had insight. I actually completed my preceptorship in the geri-psych ward there and loved the campus. The position is for ER at the main hospital though, I'm currently ICU, just finished my BSN this year and know I have a snowballs chance in he!! but you never know if you don't risk it.

I was more curious about how people feel the staff interact, as well as any interview advice if I"m lucky enough to get a phone call.

I also posted in California, but have a feeling that because it's overran by new grads and other people wanting to move to California I'll never get a legitimate response.

Thank you!

I am an RN on the inpatient sub-acute/hospice floor in the main hospital. I have a friend that works in the ER and she loves it there. With your background, I don't see why they wouldn't call you for an interview. Keep in mind that it will take at least a month from the filing date for HR to process your application. Patience is key with the federal system.

In regards to the interview process, it depends on the unit. The hospital is seeking Magnet recognition, thus their interview questions will be geared towards leadership and quality improvement. Be prepared for a lengthy panel interview and at least 10 behavioral questions. When I interviewed, they asked me how many quality improvement projects I was involved in, challenges I faced, situations where things didn't go smoothly, etc. I hope this helps!

It is a great honor to care for veterans. I wish you the best!

Thank you so much for the response! My two previous hospitals have been Magnet facilities. It has been a great experience so hopefully they will consider that. I have my fingers crossed quite a bit and am aware the time for a response will take a while. We have been struggling in Southern California and with so much family up north, similar cost of living, and a hefty pay increase, well it's the answer to our prayers. I will keep you updated!

I'm glad I can help. Yes, please keep me posted!

In your initial message, you mentioned you did a rotation in geri-psych. Was this on 2B2?
