Any have some info about the LVN to RN bridges in Cali?

I have not started any kind of school yet, not even for the LVN classes. Although, I have all my prerequisites done(Anatomy 4units, Physiology 5units, Microbiology 4 units, and many other courses), and I am looking for a college to get into. I have alot of courses completed since I go to CSUS here in Stockton/Turlock. Now I have tried to get into the local community college for the RN program, but I ended up not making the cut this year. The main thing is that I need a higher percentage in order to be ahead of the group. So, now I am stuck as to where I should go now. I also tried to get into the LVN program, but it was so impacted and from a lottery I was pulled as number 140 from the 30 students that they accepted. I really just want to get ahead with my life and become something. So, I have found private LVN school that will speak with me this Monday about their program and if there is possible room. I am hoping they have room.

But, my main question is this, once I finish school and I am an LVN, what options do I have to become an RN in good time? Since I already have the majority of my prerequisites, I plan to work for just a little bit, but I rather would jump into an LVN to RN transition course. I live in Stockton, California and I have seen and heard of some options. I have seen some LVN to RN bridges, 30-unit options, and have heard of "home study". If anyone here has any info about the transition in California I would really appreciate it. My future plans as an RN include working an living in Cali for a long time, but I want to be able to go anywhere I want to work(e.g.-Nevada, Illinois,etc.).

Their is alot of programs for LVN to RN, unfortunately, they are in a lottery system. Private school a extremely

costly but they are not on a lottery system if you want LVN to RN (ASN) Western Career College in Sacto., I heard, that maybe 2007 of opening LVN to RN in Antioch. In Visalia LVN to RN (ASN) program that includes your prerequistes. If interested in LVN to RN (BSN) Dominican College in San Rafael and UOP (University of Phoenix) in Modesto. Thanks for the info bud. I will be digging around for info from some of the schools that you have listed. Yeah i understand the whole lottery thing. It kind of sucks because there is a huge demand for nurses, but only so many are selected due to the process they believe is right. Over at my community college they challenge LVN's to try to get into the program because they really believe that they will not get in since the RN class is really good. Anybody here going to or graduate from a private LVN to RN school? How much did you pay and where? Thanks in advance.

Yeah right now I am getting all my physicals, and TB testing since I passed the pre-test into the lvn school over here. I believe lvn school will be starting Jan 8th for me. So, at least some of goals are moving forward.

Go to RN school!!!!!!!!

trolldoll sent you a great list of resources and unless your income is such that you'll get grants for that private LVN school don't do it! You have your RN prereqs and in Cali those science courses are only good for five years, after that you'll have to retake them for an RN program!!!

I was in a similiar situation as you! I had all my RN pre-reqs done to get into an RN program but never made the lottery cut after 2 years. I went to Unitek College to get my LVN so that I could get started because the LVN program is the first half of an RN program and the LVN to RN transition is the second half of the RN program. I graduated and was able to start a nursing career while I work on getting into an LVN to RN transition. I heard around campus the school may start and LVN to RN transition program soon but there is no official word from the school on that.

I would reccomend you check out Unitek College's LVN program because you go full time but you get done in 11 months! It's 2 years everywhere else. I got such a good education there, the facility I work for is very pleased with my abilities as an LVN.

Yes, the LVN private LVN program that I am jumping into next year is only 11 months and it cost $20,000 :uhoh21:. But, I am tired of waiting and I need to get my life started. I tried the community college thing and I just feel like I will be waiting till I am an old man. If in a lottery I am picked number 140 out of only 20 people selected, then that just gives me an undesirable drive. At the same time my RN program at the community had over 400 applicants, and I was 5% away from getting in. One repetition course and I am completely X. Oh well, that is why I am jumping to this LVN program. Also it is local and and only 1 mile away from my house. I have the money to back it too. I just gotta really figure out what will happen when I am done with the program. I will probably work for a year, but I need to hurry up because I do not want to get stuck there. It is all kind of hard right now, because I go to a Cal state university, and all of the sudden I am going to put that on hold and jump into an LVN curriculum. Plus the RN program at the University will only take applications once a year and that wil be in the spring. Once I get done with this program, it will already be NOv or December of next year once I start in early January. I will check out that unitek college though. Thanks

There is an LVN program at Citrus Community College in Glendora that doesn't have a waiting list. You take a class called Introduction to health occupations & what they do is out of the 120 students taking that class they allow the top 45 students to enter the LVN program. So this is what I did. Then I did my RN pre-reqs & now I am in the RN program at another community college & will be graduating this May.
