Hello,
I am new to allnurses and wondering about a few things about HH.
I am considering HH position at Holy Redeemer only because it is the largest HHA in Philadelphia area (and NJ).
However, I would like to know more about the agency, such as job satisfaction, pay rate, flexibility of work hours.
They said it's 8:30 to 5:00 Mon through Fri but I thought HH hour was more flexible than that.
Also, would I be working after 5:00 pm often?
Any input is appreciated!

If they said the hours are M-F 8:30 to 5, they are either talking about an office support job or intermittent visits. Did you specify that you wanted extended care or intermittent visit work, or a supervisory position? Flexibility must be built into the schedule by you. You arrange your intermittent visits to work to your advantage as well as the client so that you can meet the agency's required deadlines. As for extended care cases, you can pick the days and shifts. You can sometimes work out unique hours with the client and the agency will ok it. If you have to get off each day at two, then you make this known to the staffing coordinator and they will arrange to put you on a case where day shift is from 6 to 2 or you will leave at 2 instead of 3. All of this flexibility comes into play when you balance your requirements with those of the client and of the agency. They are more inclined to go along with special requests if they are having trouble finding nurses to staff a case. You need to talk to these people to see what they can do for you and what they are willing to do for you when it comes to scheduling. Good luck with hh.
Hi, caliotter3,
Thank you for the info. I am new to HH so I didn't know the difference between extended care and intermitten visit work. I know that the position that was offered was not a supervisory one. The interviewer said she expects all nurses to stick to 8:30 to 5:00 work hours although the work gets done around noon (?? I still don't understand this).
It's not hourly based pay so there is no clock in and out. It's a point system where 25 points per week is a base and you are expected to work 30+ points. I need to get off from work at 3:30 every Tuesdays for next three months for personal reason and it seemed that was not an option for them.
The main reason why I looked into HH was the flexibility as my personal life became very hectic recently.
I read many posts here and with all that paper work and phone calls, it seems the HH work hour is longer than the floor nursing one
You are describing intermittent visit work when you talk about points, getting off at noon (Ha), and a quota of 30 points each week. You will probably find it better to go to an agency where you can do extended care (also called continuous care or shift work). You will only go to one patient for an 8 or 12 hour shift and produce one nurses note for the routine care you provide. No paperwork at home or driving all over the world and no weekly quota. Less stress than intermittent visits. Hope you can get something that is good for your situation.
