Hi! I have been accepted into HVCC's Nursing program to begin next fall (2012). I have completed most of my classes with the exception of the actual Nursing courses, and A&PII and Microbiology. I wanted to see if anyone on here is going to be in the program. I know that in the coming years the classes will be tough, and I thought it would be nice to know some people going in!
Thanks:)

Hi Ali - I'm in the nursing program right now. I was originally on nights when I was accepted but then switched to the day program. If there is any advice I can give you, it would be to try and do some pre-reqs in the spring and over the summer, it will make things easier for you. Nursing I, Micro, and A&P I is a hard load to carry. It can be done, but it's definitely easier to get them done first. Good luck
Hi,
Thank you for the advice. I'm taking A&P II in the Spring, and I'm going to try to get into Micro as well when the reserves come off for registration. I was wondering about how the classes are formatted. Is Nursing I just lecture, or does it have a lab or clinical portio as well? I wanted to see how many hours per week it will be, and what times of the day I could take it.
Thank you for your reply!
Ali the way that it is formatted (right now) is that there is a discussion on Mondays, you then choose a 2 hour lab. In addition to that, you have a four hour clinical (usually Tues - Thur). For the first five weeks it's on campus and then you go to the hospital (which is nice, because they don't just throw you in). They also started doing something called BEAPs this year, which is an additional 2 hour class. My schedule is Monday, discussion and lab (so, 4 hours), Tuesday Clinical (7 - 11), and then BEAPs on Saturday (10-12). You will do your clinical skills exams in the lab, and take all of your tests in discussion. I hope that makes sense. It is very time consuming (I also work 40 hours a week) so I simply cannot imagine taking A&P or Micro with that. Plus, a lot of the stuff you learn in Micro and A&P you utilize in Nursing I. Good luck, I'm enjoying the program a lot. It's not difficult if you're organized :) Also, I would be happy to give you my Kozier book if you want it.
Thank you very much for explaining that to me! I've been trying to figure that out for so long!! Do you find it difficult to work and do Nursing I? Also, what is a Kozier book? Thank you for the offer, and I should probably already know what it is! :)

Hi Ali,
Can you please tell me how long of a wait it was from the time you took the TEAS V exam untill the time you were notified that you were accepted? I also took the TEAS V at HVCC. Can you also let me know what kind of score you had on the exam so I can get an idea of what kind of score is accepted? Thanks.
I took the TEAS in January of 2011, and I heard back (I think) in early April. Even though there is no wait-list "policy" anymore, I was put on a short wait list of about 25 people. That is why I have to wait until August of this year to begin Nursing 1. I got an 84 on the test. So, I would guess that about an 87 would have gotten me in. However, in 2010, there were people who got in with an 84. So, I guess it depends on each year. Hope this helps! :)
Hi Ali - I could have sworn I commented!! I haven't been on here in a long time. Working with Nursing I is not difficult, and Kozier is the book for Nursing I. If you can get it beforehand I would be happy to pass along some reading assignments that we had to do, so you can get ahead (I think that would be okay?)
