Hey - fellow HVCC student here :) Did you interview at AMC? I have interviews at St. Peter's and Bassett and I'm really excited. Just wanted to see how it was going! :)

I have three dismissed charges on my background. I have never had an issue finding employment, even at (major) hospitals. I can check "no" when they ask me if I have ever been convicted of a crime...because I have not. My dismissed charges are: disorderly conduct and trespassing (I liked to protest stupid stuff when I was younger) and criminal harrassment (from an ex-boyfriend's OTHER girlfriend who falsified emails stating that I was going to "beat her up" - I didn't write them. It is SO frustrating to have these on my record, even if they are dismissed). You are not legally obligated to disclose dismissed charges to employers.

Hi - I have three dismissed misdemeanor charges from MA. That means there is no admission of guilt, and no conviction. I can choose "no" when asked on employment backround checks if I have ever been convicted; however the BON requires disclosure of all complaints. My parents are lawyers, and I asked them about this. In Massachusetts, you cannot get anything taken off your record unless it is due to identity theft, or the charges are completely false. You can, however, get it sealed. If you have it sealed when someone pulls your CORI, it will still show up, but it will show up as "sealed". FBI backround checks that the BON will show what the complaint is and what you are charged with.

I had two checks as well. Fingers crossed!

Hi Ali - I could have sworn I commented!! I haven't been on here in a long time. Working with Nursing I is not difficult, and Kozier is the book for Nursing I. If you can get it beforehand I would be happy to pass along some reading assignments that we had to do, so you can get ahead (I think that would be okay?)

Oh and no - I had been out of school for about 6 years when I took the TEAS. I have my BS in Biology though (2004).

Actually, I was accepted into the night program and put on a wait list, and had to accept days (otherwise I would have had to wait until Fall 2012 to start the night program...and I was accepted in 2010! Ridiculous) The night program is way more competitive because there are less seats. I think next year the class will be bigger. Have you tried contacting Cathy in the nursing department? She's super helpful.

WHat did you get? I took the TEAS in early 2010 and got a 92%, I found out I was accepted about two weeks after, they sent certified mail to my house. Things are more competive now, especially with a lot of people failing out and having to re-take Nursing I, so that takes up seats.

Ali the way that it is formatted (right now) is that there is a discussion on Mondays, you then choose a 2 hour lab. In addition to that, you have a four hour clinical (usually Tues - Thur). For the first five weeks it's on campus and then you go to the hospital (which is nice, because they don't just throw you in). They also started doing something called BEAPs this year, which is an additional 2 hour class. My schedule is Monday, discussion and lab (so, 4 hours), Tuesday Clinical (7 - 11), and then BEAPs on Saturday (10-12). You will do your clinical skills exams in the lab, and take all of your tests in discussion. I hope that makes sense. It is very time consuming (I also work 40 hours a week) so I simply cannot imagine taking A&P or Micro with that. Plus, a lot of the stuff you learn in Micro and A&P you utilize in Nursing I. Good luck, I'm enjoying the program a lot. It's not difficult if you're organized :) Also, I would be happy to give you my Kozier book if you want it.

Hi Ali - I'm in the nursing program right now. I was originally on nights when I was accepted but then switched to the day program. If there is any advice I can give you, it would be to try and do some pre-reqs in the spring and over the summer, it will make things easier for you. Nursing I, Micro, and A&P I is a hard load to carry. It can be done, but it's definitely easier to get them done first. Good luck

I'm day, but I was supposed to be evening. I got accepted in 2009 but after finishing my pre-reqs they told me I was going to have to wait until 2012 to start my clinicals!! There were a bunch of us that were waiting, so they offered me days this summer and I jumped on it. Were you taking A&P nights last year? I miss my old lab partner Nicole and your name made me think of her.
