Sorry to hear your experience wasn't good. We are very satisfied and proud of with our union. I am a union steward. We have seen great changes made with our dept thus far. If you have a union everyone is to be involved with the process. Its not all handed to you. I think this is a big mis-conception with alot of people. They give you the tools but its up to the group as a whole as to what you want to accomplish. So again..unions are relatively new to nurses. A welder in a union factory here in our town makes $35-45/hr. Hmmmm. whats wrong with that picture. Its also not all about wages, its about adequete staff to provide safe care to our patients. That is the bottom line and should be a concern to all nurses in the U.S. We work hard and deserve a voice...look at what California nurses have accomplished. This is just the beginning for our profession. We are responsible for the lives and wefares of our patients. I know I want that if my friends or family are ever hospitalized. We are also the patients first hand advocate. Lets all get a backbone and stand up for this profession...it's been a long time coming!

I'm from Iowa . I work for a homecare. We have been negotiating for a contract for over a year. The usual stall tactics have/continue to be used. They were charged with not negotiating in good faith by the NLRB and numerous other charges. Our agency can't seem to find other HC's that are union. There has to be somebody out there with?!:rotfl: We want to put specifics in our contract and I'd like input from other unions who have current contracts. They just recently gave us IRS mileage reimbursemnet @ 37.5/mile( we were getting 34.5. I see now it has increased again to ? 40.5/mile? They haven't talked about increasing to par yet. Input would be welcome.
Thanks Guinney Girl
