Any GA ADN-RNs having problems transferring credits for a BSN?

Published

Hello Georgia RNs,

I am extremely interested in obtaining my ADN for many reasons. I already have an A.A.S. in another field, and I want to pay for my BSN in cash. I am avoiding student loans at all cost...been there done that. I found out about a new ADN program that's in the developmental stages here in Metro Atlanta, but I received some discouraging information yesteday about transferring credits from a technical college to a four year college/university. Getting an ADN is a better option for me financially, but I know that I will return to college for my BSN soon after I become an RN. Did any of you have problems transferring your credits from a GA technical/2yr. college to a GA 4yr college? If so, what classes wouldn't transfer? If you didn't have any problems transferring credits, then what colleges did you attend? I am definitely going to call around and do my own research, but I figured allnurses forum would be a good start.

Thanks In Advance :)

If you attend a technical college that is part of The Technical College System of Georgia and transfer to a 4 year college within the University System of Georgia, you shouldn't have any trouble transferring your non-technical courses (i.e. college level English, Math, Sciences, Humanities, History, etc).

In addition, many of the technical colleges have an articulation agreement with area universities that guarantee the transfer of certain credits in order to allow students to further their education. You can also check with the universities you plan on attending, most have on their websites a transfer credit evaluation tool where you can enter the college you are transferring from and it will show you a list of courses that they accept from that college.

I would recommend looking into the technical colleges that already have an ADN program in place, especially if this particular technical college you are considering is presenting discouraging information regarding transfer of their credits.
