Hey everyone,
I am an RN. Got my BSN a little over a year ago. I have been working in the ICU at a hospital in Burlingame, CA since january. I am interested in joining the Navy reserve as a nurse. My brother, who is active duty in the Navy, told me to talk to another Nurse Reservist in the area before talking to a recruiter. What better place to do that than allnurses.com!
I have a few questions and would like to talk or email.
1) how long is officer training and where does this take place?
2) What is pay for officer training?
3) My specialty is critical care. Would the navy change my specialty at their discretion?
4) What kind of assignments would I get during deployment. I am interested in trauma and surgical icu's.
5)What do you do on your one weekend a month?
6)Where are the local bases in california?
7) Will they really pay off my huge student loan or at least part of it?
8) Who should I talk to for more information? I'd love to meet a
local Navy reserve RN...........How do I find them?
I really appreciate any feedback. This is a huge decision that requires good information before I can really decide what course to take.
Thanks in advance....:typing
