Any Australian nurses working in the US?

Published

Hi All,

Any Australian nurses working in the US? I received my license in April 2010 after passing the NCLEX. I am still on the job hunt :crying2:. I just want to know if there are others who are in the same boat.

Also I wanted to ask if your Bachelor of Nursing in Australia was recognized here in the US. I went through the CGFNS and in the report it stated that my degree from Uni. of Sydney is comparable to a nurse diploma program in the US. I would like to get more information on similar cases so I can work towards getting a BSN here in the US.

Thank you! And G'day! :)

Specializes in CTICU.

I trained at Deakin in Melb and work in the US. There's no point getting your "BSN" when you already have a bachelor degree in nursing.. why would you do that? What will it give you? You'd be much more wise to apply for MSN programs and get a US masters degree. I am currently doing so (as nurse practitioner) and my Aussie BN was just fine as a bachelor degree. They just say it's equivalent to "diploma" because they had 3 yr diploma programs. Once you have a job, it doesn't matter if you have a BN or BSN. I've never hardly even been asked what the difference is.

I have one year part time to complete in my MSN.

Are you currently in the US? If so, on what basis?
