Any advice, on taking pathophysiology. We are using the book. By lachel story. Also any adice on the health assement class, starting nursing in the fall, pretty nervous ;)

Any advice on how to approach patho, how are the test questions set up, is it definitions or applied? Best study tricks? .

Also is health assessment difficult? Any tips for that?

I'm go to school in north east ohio

Thank you guys for all the advice, I haven't been on because I was in a 6week microbiology class .

I have started reading my book , I literally sit there with either my ipad or medical dictionary because some of the terms I do not understand yet( I took medical term 3years ago) , I am looking for resources that will give me clinical applications, I don't jus want to memorize, I want to apply it because essentially that is what I will be doing as a nurse. I just feel overwhelmed by learning it all, but I will say that learning the terminology makes it eaiser, such as itis always mean inflammation. Oh yeas guys I start class In August but I want to get a head start because I didn't retain a lot of Information from A and P, I basically was just memorizing stuff to pass the class and get accepted, smh I kno I kno not good. It I'm trying to make it right so I don't walk into class and fail!

Thanks for the information , I will start concept maps and the coloring book seems interesting , and you tube ! Yes you tube it saved me in chemistry! I sure it won't fail me now!

Where are you from?!! Lol what nursing program are you going into???? My patho teacher was lachel story ;)

North east ohio, the book is okay, I don't feel like it explains why things happen , which is important to know , but how did you do in the class? What helped you the most? I've been trying nclex style questions for patho

That is crazy!! I will tell Dr. Story you have her book!! She is the sweetest teacher!! I did horrible in patho tbh. Came out with a 79! I barely scraped by. She has some online program that you can get with the book? Did you get that? I used that some and it helps. Reading the book twice always helps with any nursing test. I wish I had her wimba lectures for you to hear.. How long do you have left in the class? How does your instructor teach it? Have you taken any of your tests yet? Some people did acronyms for the disorders to help them remember side effects an such..

Try the a & P interactive pathophysiology cd

I start the class in August , I heard the teacher is great as far as what is said in rate my professor , but I hear people do not do so well in patho, I'm just trying t re read and re learn the anatomy of the heart because , I didn't take it seriously when I tool it last semester smh, so I have to re learn that.

It seems like alot I hAve been trying to use clinical application questions to retain the Information. And I did get the online access code but it only has like 5 practice questions per chapter, I was looking for a bit more than that.

I'm really nervouse about it because we have a hard grading scale too, if you get a 77 that's basically an F. So I want to perform well, I heard once patho and pharmacology is over that we basically have research classes and clinical s.

how far are you in the program? What was most hard? What's easy? , it's my first year in , I'm sooooooo nervous!

Thank you !! Helped a lot

I did not do well in patho because I did a lot like you did. Just memorized a & p. I wish I would not have done that either, but I promise you. You will learn all the systems like the back of your hand in the end!! The heart and reproductive systems was what I did best in. I didn't really try other resources. I just tried to break the stuff down in my head. I can read something all day long but if I do not understand it, it does me no good lol. Basically, I am saying draw connections with everything so you will remember it even after you graduate. As future nurses, we teach things, and we need to understand these things like the back of our hands IMO!! Our grading scale is tough too girl. Anything below a 77 is failing. I am going into the third semester! We have four semesters in my program and about to enter the OB/Peds area of the program! Patho is so interesting, but very hard to grasp! I would try acronyms.. Anything that will help you because you will be tested on this stuff throughout the entire program I am sure, and it's best to get ahold of it early!! The hardest to me was fluid and electrolytes. It's hard for me to get stuff I can't see. I have gotten so much better at it though, but I would suggest grasping ahold of it in the very beginning! Watch youtube videos! I did that a lot for endocrine disorders. Being able to see the person with the disease, helps me see them and how it affects them ya know? It helped me a lot! I did that for Adult Health II though which is probably similar to med surg II if that's what y'all call it? If you'd like, I could send you all my powerpoints from my patho class? Or I can send you some now, and some later. You can do it though! If you ever get discouraged, sign your name and put RN at the end (my instructors showed us this). You will make it! I thought I never would and I am shy of the end in two semesters which my third to last is about to start!! You got into the program, so I am sure the program knew you would represent them well! :)

Oh yeah and Saunders NCLEX book is awesome as well!! I don't know if they suggest that book to you at your school, but it worked out great for me!!
