Any Advice for State Survey?

Published

Anyone have any advice about state surveys? We're expecting state is a couple of weeks. I work in a community based group home in Tn, with 3 individuals with g-tubes. It's been a while since I've dealt with state and I've Never had them watch me give meds. Getting a little nervous here :) Any advice will be appriciated. Thanks:nurse:

I don't know the regs for TN, I have worked as a nurse in NC through 6yrs of surveys and as a direct care staff through 7 yrs of surveys. The team will monitor and document everything going on including communication. Be sure to read up on the service users habilitation plan and know their strength's, weaknesses and programs. Talk to your service users during med pass no matter what their cognitive function is. Ensure all shifts are doing the passes as trained and know what meds they are giving and can identify side effects if questioned. Ensure any company policy regarding g tubes is being followed. Ensure all documentation is current and done per policy and 6 month to 1 yr is currently available. Also, check the med closets for expired or discontinued meds or treatments. What type of housing is this classified as?

The federal regs are tha same for all states. Just make sure you follow your them.and state regs if you have them. If you alwys do what you are supposed to do (no shortcuts). Then you won't need to be nervous in front of a surveyor. Go to your states web site and you will find all of your regs. Good luck from a Texas Surveyor
