Any advice for a new RN?

Published

Hi everyone!

I just passed my NCLEX RN a few days ago and I need advice from you guys. I'm currently working as an LPN(only 11 mons exp.) in a Nursing Home right now and planning to apply in a hospital. I don't know what to expect in a hospital sooo... i really need advice from you guys. What should i prepare for? Where should I focus as a starting nurse? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks! :smokin:

PS: I wanted to work in the ER. :D

Congratulations on becoming a RN!

I am a new RN as well so, obviously, I have very little wisdom to impart haha.

So far, what I can say is I have learned so much by asking "What's the one thing you wish new nurses knew?" I asked as many people I can. I asked all the nurses I was paired with during clinicals, the charge nurses, my professors, the CNAs, techs, RTs, the unit secretaries etc. Errbody. It has been a wonderful icebreaker for me to get to know people, find out their specific passions and pet peeves on top of getting very solid advice.

Congrats!!! I'm a new grad RN as well. I'm almost done with orienation and from what I've been experiencing I would say STAY STRONG & learn as much as you can from your preceptor. Learn about the doctors, the other nurses, and just people period that you can go to for help. It may seem a little overwhelming at first but you'll eventually get it.
