hello everyone. just joined the site so forgive me if i'm not posting this correctly or repeating someone else's question. i will be starting macomb community college's nursing program in a couple weeks (oct '06) and was wondering if there is anyone who has been through the program that has any advice? i'll take what i can get. thanks a million...have a great day. :)

Hi!

I just finished the 1500's at Macomb and survived! :rollThe best advice I have is don't underestimate the time you will have to put in! Do all of the easy, low point papers asap so you don't have to worry about them later. Don't fall behind in the reading and study your lecture notes and power points. You will feel overwhelmed at times and feel like you are sinking, but I promise you will make it through. If you have more specific questions, you can send me a PM. I think you do it by clicking on my user name.

Best of luck!

Welcome to Macomb. I'll be graduating 12/06! The previous advice was great. Also, don't get caught up in all the gossip about the different instructors. Everyone has their own opinion and it probably won't be yours! In my experience, all of the instructors were fabulous and are only interested in helping you to become a great nurse. Just do what they tell you to do. Improve your organizational skills and seek out learning opportunities. Go see Gina in the lab if you need help with anything, and do it before you have to demonstrate it in clinical.

Congrats!

I am a Macomb grad who has survived her first year in nursing and lived to tell about it! LOL!

Everyone learns in a different way but here is what I learned about MYSELF: For clinicals, I just have to "get in there" and DO IT! Meaning someone can show me something multiple times, but until I actually do it myself I won't feel comfortable.

In lecture, about halfway through the program I purchased a digital voice recorder and could've KICKED myself for not doing it sooner! I recorded all lectures and listened to them as much as possible. What that meant for me (I have two small children) was listening at night....I would go to my bedroom, close the door (sometimes even turn out the lights) and listen to as many lectures as I could stand (min. half hour but usually 1-2 hours) with NO DISTRACTIONS!

YES it is time consuming but I found that the tests were straight from the lectures and some lectures I had actually MEMORIZED from listening to them so much...needless to say I aced 95% of my exams and was usually the first one done!

Good luck! Nursing school will be the hardest thing you have ever done in your life! Take it one day at a time!

They gave you some great advice. I did what Jenny did with the voice recorder. I also taped my lectures and played them several times. Also helps to walk daily while listening to the lectures. Or doing house work and driving. I put notes like pharm on the tape also.

I took the pre-req's at Macomb and transfered. Congrats on getting into their program.

Oh, you should ask those who graduated or are in the Macomb program if reading the NCLEX-pn book helped them with the program. Also books like patho made easy helped me.
