Any Advice for getting into the ED?

Hey everyone,

I am taking my NCLEX in a month and I was curious what steps I can take now to increase my odds of getting into the ED. I was a Paramedic for 5 years but my ACLS, PALS, etc. are expired. Will they sometimes hire without current certs? Online recertifications possible? Thanks for your time. I will poke around these threads when I get some free time.

Oh Snap!!!! I just found the FAQ's. I live in Austin, TX and any specific/general advice/recommendations are most welcome. Thank you :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the certs but I'd make sure I had the algorithms down pat. If you've got the cash, I'd get the certs again... I'm not much a fan of "online" because I've had some excellent ACLS/PALS courses taught by experienced docs, nurses, and medics and the real learning comes from the battle stories, not learning the algorithms (which, let's face it, are very simple).
