Cal State Dominguez Hills has an excellent nursing program. Congratulations!
Torrance, Gardena, Hawthorne, and Long Beach (other areas too) have some reasonably priced places.
I know one fortunate public health nurse (PHN) Dominguez Hills graduate who rents a lovely guest house from an 80 somthing lady, who lives in the big house on the same lot for $400.00 a month!
Her landlady doesn't seem to know how rents have risen over the years.
Doubt you'll find someting that inexpensive without roommate(s).
I'd ask students who live nearby.

I am currently waiting for an acceptance letter from a school in Los Angeles so I thought I'd start looking now since I am not familiar with the area. Any advice anyone? I am searching for decent areas (low crime rate) but inexpensive as well because I will not be working if I'm in the program.
