Well....I'm excited but at the sametime, I am very anxious. I passed my RN boards back in November and have had no luck in getting interviews at the places that I have applied to. So, Thurs I received a phone call from the local community hosp in my area.on Thurs...asking if I was still interested in a nursing position and gave me a date to come in an see one of the nursing managers on the med/surg unit. That day is tommorow - my problem is that I am not good with the interview process. I get nervous and all flustered when it comes to the interview and I think or know that it is my downfall for getting into a position anywhere. I've been reading tips on interviewing and have written up questions on what they might ask...but it's just not the same. I want to make a good impression and am trying to remain positive....BUT it is very hard to keep my mind on track. I guess that I'm just looking for some positive vibes from my fellow nurses and some encouragement that I can nail this interview. Thank you for listening...I appreciate it.

Just relax and be honest and open. If you dont know an answer always say you will access the resources available to you to obtain the answer. We ask several prioritizing questions about what would you do first in this situation. They are difficult I feel for the new nurse. If you dont know just tell them you would ask a team member. Dont be afraid to say you dont know but do show you realize there will be a team behind you. A brand new nurse with all the answers won't float!!

The most important thing in an interview is to be prepared.
Take a copy of your resume, dress to impress, and make sure you do your research on the facility. Take it slow, if you feel flustered or feel like you are speaking too much or too fast, just take it easy. Make sure you have any questions you are wondering about (not benefits, pay stuff, that comes later) and at the end when they ask if you have any final questions or thoughts ALWAYS wrap it up with something to wow them and give them a positive vibe about you as they move to the next interview. Once I get to the interview stage, I have almost always (except once) gotten the job. If you take something away from my advice is be prepared, be prepared.
