Anxiety + Starting school

Published

I'm so excited to go to school, it's been 6 years since I stepped foot in a classroom and I'm pumped. I can't wait to get started on this (possibly long, definitely difficult) journey to becoming an RN.

Only problem is I've changed my mind about 5 times so far. From ASN to BSN bridge, to BSN program transfer.. Changing classes (decided to retake the handful of class credits I do have for a competitive shot into one of my dream schools), I feel my anxiety building. I'm a pretty calm, collected individual and I pride myself on being level-headed and logical. However, this is my money, my future, my family this time and I feel immense pressure on myself to choose wisely.

So, does anyone else feel like me? Just beginning this path and already worried of a misstep resulting in lost time and money? I research all the time, make schedule plans and possible scenarios and still struggle with knowing what's right for me. 😬

I know where you're coming from. I too have a fear of making a misstep. Sometimes all I can think about is school. However, I try to limit my worrying. For example- I set my timer for 15 minutes and write down all the possible things that could go wrong. After my timer is up I stop worrying and throw my worries away. Remember also that we do not have control over the future. Sometimes we just have to let life happen and adjust accordingly. Slow down and enjoy every moment of your journey. You'll be fine!!!!!

OP, if you're concerned about missteps -- PLEASE change your avatar to something more anonymous. Anonymity on any social networking site is important, but for nurses & nursing students, it's essential. It's entirely possible to derail your entire education/career with a simple careless post. One negative comment about your school could result in expulsion since your picture provides evidence that you're the culprit. The same will apply to employers when you become a nurse.

Please be careful.

Good advice! I'll try that, thank you.

Thank you for bringing that up to me. I thought a random username was enough but I've now changed my avatar- thank you.
