Antepartum Vs multiunit acut med-surg floors

Published

Hi! I am a new grad and I had a question about what unit would be better for me to start out on, given my career goals. I hope to end up in a pediatric ED/ pediatrics in general. Offers that I have are an Antepartum floor, where would also have exposure high risk postpartum and a nursery or to be part of a resource team that rotates between Adult Neuro stepdown, Adult Cardiac step down and other Adult acute med surg floors. I'm not sure which position would be better place for me to start out on. Both hospitals have pediatric departments that I would hope to transfer to after finishing my residency.

In the antepartum unit, how often would you work with newborns? IF it is not frequently, I think the adult might be better general experience. Unless you are primarily interested in newborns/NICU
