Answers to lots of questions regarding SMU ABSN

Published

Hi all! I just graduated from the ABSN program last week. I've received some emails through allnurses about the ABSN program. I compiled many of my responses into a google doc. Check it out if you're interested in the program and let me know are other topics you'd like me to add/questions you'd like answered.

Best of luck to you!

First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I know its hard for nursing students to respond to a million questions from applicants like myself, so it is very helpful to have everything in one place.

I have a few additional questions-

-For the clinicals, why did you chose to do a cohort? What are the pro/cons for choosing a cohort vs. not?

-Do you select your concentration for the preceptorship? You said you "ended up" on an oncology unit, was that by choice or do you pretty much go where there is room?

-From your responses I think that you will not have clinical and class on the same day, is that correct?

-Also, if you don't mind me asking, what is your previous bachelors in? Since you did so well in the program, I am wondering if you had a science degree.

-This is kind of a random one, but is there a student health center (like if you get the flu, for prescriptions, etc)? I am at SFSU now and having the student health center has been amazing, but as far as I can tell from the website, only the Oakland SMU campus has a health center.

Again, I cannot thank you enough for posting your reposes!

Good luck on the NCLEX and finding a job! :)

trexc, I just want to say, "Thanks, you're a champ!" It was superkind of you to create that document and has gotten me excited again as I wait for the (surely positive) response to my application. Yours, Diane
