Answering Navy Nurse Recruiting Questions

Published

Got any questions about Navy recruiting? I'll be happy to answer!

I'm currently putting together my packet for the Navy. I don't have high expectations of being picked up because I saw what happened to last year's group. In the event that I am not picked up for Med-Surg, what are the requirements to specialize in Perioperative? I am an OR nurse now, and I am wondering what they need me to have to make that my specialty for the next application packet I may have to do.

To become a Reserve Nurse in any specialty, you have to be current in that specialty. So that would mean, your last 3 months (As a BSN) would have to be in the OR for you to apply to Periop Reserve, which happens to still be open!

So, it looks like I am not awesome enough yet to see PMs Call my Govt phone 512-661-9465

Specializes in CNOR.

That sounds great since I've been current in the OR for the last 5 months. Is it the same for active duty?

omgosh you're the best i've requested info by phone and online and so far i've gotten 0 helpful answers. until, now!

Technically, That would be a YES.... However, there is currently no hope of entering Active Duty (as of Today, subject to change every fiscal year)

I have a quick question. aside from your BSN what does the navy look at for you to go in without a problem?

how is the officer program different? and training after? when can i start applying to be a nurse officer? (i heard soon as you go into a university in nursing program)

Easy Day! I try to check this thread at least once or twice a week.

Depends on your situation. If you are looking to get your BSN, Summer before J1 is best to start and apply for the NCP, the reason is you have to do the physical and that will take away from school, so summer is best.

Things to keep an application competitive:

1. CV Do not list Clinicals, make it as complete as possible.

2. Volunteerism is huge

3. Academic clubs are big points

4. Sports or Physical fitness is VERY important

5. GPA GPA GPA. Minimum is 3.0, but competition moved that up way higher than that.

6. Motivational Statement. HUGE!

We follow the "total person concept" we do not want robots in the Navy!

If selected, You do 16week Orientation in Medsurge (New BSN Grads only), you then work in medsurge for 36 Months, after that is unique to you.

Does these requirements also apply to somewho wants to go in as a physician?

for the most part, yes. The thing with HPSP or HSCP, you do not need an LOA, just proof you applied and the MCAT.

thanks for all the info.... does navy cover any educational expenses if you apply for RN officer once you get accepted in nursing school??

Not sure which expenses you are talking about. If about expenses previous to selection of the NCP, no. Also, the NCP is not a tuition program, it is a 10k bonus and up to 1000 per month for 24 months (you decide what to do with that money).

The only Loan Repayment we have as of right now is for certain reserve specialties.
