annual salary

Hi all, I just want to do a cost of living comparison between NY and VA. What's the annual salary range for RNs in VA? I'm considering relocating, however the starting salary for RNs I've heard of so far is a huge turn off. In NY as a new grad on nights my annual salary is over 76K. Cost of living is less in VA but not that much. If anyone can share some insight, please do. Thank you.

76k for a new grad in NY? yea, stay there. In va you are looking at around 50k to start.

It is feasible

Hey Enigman,

I actually just accepted a job in the Hampton roads area (southern VA). I was making around 75K in NYC and now I'll be happy if I make 45K (with overtime). I went from around $38.00/hr to $19.60/hr, pretty bad and to be honest the cost of living isn't that cheap for certain areas (i.e. Va beach). I still haven't decided if it's worth it or not but I really do like southern Virginia, I'm just praying and hoping I'll be able to pay my rent, buy food, and pay my student loans and still live above the poverty level!!! Maybe in a year or so if I don't have to file for bankruptcy I'll be able to say it was worth it, lol.

Wow!! I guess I have to convince my bf that the move isn't worth it. I mean yeah cost of living is ridiculous in NY but at least I'm comfortable and can manage. If I move to VA I still have my student loans to pay which isn't gonna change. The only thing cheaper is housing. Right now I'm paying $1200/mth for mortgage, which is pretty cheap for NY. I think I'll pass on the VA move; at least for now. Maybe when kids come in the picture. It's a great place to raise kids and I'm in no rush right now.

No VA and NY have the same cost of living.
