Anesthesia Tech for New Grad

Published

Hey everyone. I wanted to know what you guys thought of getting a job as an anesthesia tech straight out of LPN school. My eventual goal is to become a CRNA so on one hand I feel as though this would provide valuable experience in the anesthesia dept; however, I am a little concerned about the lack of direct patient care that I would be responsible for.

My plan is to get my BSN/RN as soon as possible and then transition into the ICU for the year that most anesthesia programs require and then continue on.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

why not proceed with the end in mind? if you see yourself as a nurse anesthetist, then why not start working towards that goal now?

if CRNA school requires a yr of bedside care, you'll have opportunities down the road. besides, having the tech experience just might give you an edge later on, whether it's in school, looking for work, etc. sounds like a win-win to me.
