Anesthesia Questions?

Published

I had a right thyroidlobectomy performed yesterday and am curious why they did a couple of things. 1. Why did an anesthesiologist do my preop questioning, but then a CRNA actually performed the anesthesia? 2. They gave me a drug prior to entering the ER that really lit me up, and then gave me the drug that put me under. What was the first drug that he pushed and why did they give me that before they gave me the drug that put me under? This was not only my first surgery, but my first time ever in a hospital. Ironically, I am starting nursing school this January and this was actually a cool way for me to get a first hand experience with many different areas of nursing in a hospital setting. Thanks for reading and I appreciate any input.

It makes no diffence how many times I corect the patient, they will call me the anesthesiologist about 2 seconds after I explain the difference.

Yep, he definitely said Anesthesiologist. Didn't bother me much at all. What's the difference as far as I'm concerned? Either of them are going to put me on my butt. I have full confidence in any of the APN's out there. My son regularly sees an ARNP and my friend delivered her baby with a Midwife. My whole goal in this experience and in this thread was to learn from the experience. Nursing is a new career path for me, and as with anything that I take part in, I want to know as much as humanly possible.

One is a doctor and one is a nurse, doctors do not like to impersonated and nurses do not like to look like a wannabe.
