so it has been a long time (like 10 years) since I have used an anesthesia bag, I didn't think we even stocked them for adults (usually a peds thing). How are these set up, how do they come. We have these "modified jackson rees circuits" that I guess are the anesthesia bags but they look like there connected to a single arm vent not a flow meter? If it is connected to a single arm vent then where are the pressure/exhale tubes? Argh... Any explanation/diagrams or help would be greatly appreciated!

We use anesthesia bags all the time in our kiddos and always on the NICU babies... just at the bedside for basic emergency use and for bagging when off the vent. Ours are just a simple bag with a mask and pop off valve and some have a manometer attached.
I was not familiar with the type you are asking about, but when I did a google search I got tons of info...... seems the type you are asking about are used with the anesthesia circut itself and seem to be a non rebreather type-------way out of my knowledge base.
Are you a CRNA?

No I am not a CRNA, it sure would be helpful if I was. Im working in a new (for me) CCU and they just seem to love the anesthesia bags, there everywhere, with every BVM there's an anesthesia bag. They are the three liter types for adults, but I haven't used this type before. Do yours attach straight to the flowmeter? I am not sure why we would stock these if they require an anesthesia machine, thats a bit outside of our scope of practice. Perhaps there was a stocking error? What brands do you use?
Yep- ours attach straight to the flowmeter. I cannot think of the brand off hand- I'll check in the morning at work. I do love them though. The only time we use the self inflating bags is for kids on peeps of 10 or greater(lets you set the peep on them).
Try google... there is tons of info from the manufacturer with pictures and diagrams. Maybe you will see something familiar? It looked pretty foreign to me. :uhoh21:
These are the ones I am pretty sure we carry or at least it looks like the same setup

eh....
but these are more like the ones that I seem to remember using

hmmm neither site particularly offered much in the way of reference..
I did some research on the internet. It would seem that you are right that the jackson rees circuits are some form of modified anesthesia circuit, but I really don't see what use they have outside of anesthesia? If you need an anesthesia machine....then....uh....well thats a bit inconvenient if I just need to ventilate someone. Heck at this point I'm not seeing the benefit of these over a BVM (for peds maybe not for adults). Maybe someone in anesthesia could shed some light on this?
Yep... the second ones look like what I'm used to. Maybe you got the wrong shipment??
