ANCC frustrations

I graduated in Aug. It took the ANCC 8 weeks to process my paperwork to let me sit for the credentalling exam. 8 weeks! I finally took the exam on Dec 9th. I've been waiting for the state of Mi to issue my licence. It was taking a bit longer than expected, so I called to find out why my certification verification was still listed as missing. THE ANCC NEVER SENT IT! I called them and they told me that they never recieved the release paper. I distinctly remember sending it. Now I have to send it again and wait for the state to process it (2-3 MORE weeks) The worst part is that I took a job in Sept as a Graduate NP not knowing it would take nearly this long (everyone assured me it wouldn't take more taht 6-8 wks). My boss says it's OK, but I'm so frustrated! I just had to vent. I expected more from a professional organization. PAs can work on a temporary licence in Mi. We can't. How silly.

Thanks for listening.

This definitely isn't going to make you feel any better...but I thought I would vent. I sent my money in to test for the AANP/FNP exam in JULY. It took several phone calls and emails to get my paperwork processed so that I could schedule my test. By the time I get the okay to test...I had to take the test on December the 9th. I got the preliminary result of "pass" but have still not received anything official to show my employer. I have made (AGAIN) numerous phone calls and emails without a response. The website stated that test results would be provided in 2-3 weeks....yeah right ! ANYWAY, I guess both certification bodies aren't overwhelmed and unorganized or this wouldn't be happening. Anyone have ideas on how to correct this mess???? THANKS ! and good luck !

Several of my classmates have had similar issues. It's frustrating because it seems that there is no one to really complain to. I have to have the paperwork to get a license and have to have the license to work. It's not like there is another agency I can go through. (I'm acute care) I feel backed into a corner and the people who should be able to help are not. They don't have to provide good customer service because they have no competition. Everyone please think happy thoughts for me and abowman13. All we want to do is the job we are qualified to do.

The same thing happened to me, where ANCC said they lost my verification for cert. - it took me 2 wks to figure it out, and by the time I re-sent and did all that it put me a month behind. My employer was not happy. I was extremely frustrated. The BON was not much better - consistently giving wrong answers about how to fill out the form and taking FOREVER to issue licensure. What is going on in these places?

One place you can complain to is the Better Business Bureau. They give AANP a rating of F.

Thanks, I guess that I never thought of the ANCC as a business.

ANCC is definitely a "Business". Take a look at their annual report to see how much cash they bring in. But they are probably the only nurse certification body that is used as a cash cow by another organization (the ANA), so that can give you an idea of why the exams are so expensive.
