Ancc fnp passed june 2017!

Published

I PASSED the ANCC FNP exam on June 13, 2017!!! I want to share with you all what was useful for me to pass and information about the test.

1. Fitzgerald Review: the review has more information than you need, but it will help you pass the exam. I also took the AANP exam and feel that the review was much more helpful in passing the ANCC. I used the online version and went through the whole review once.

2. ANCC Review Manual: the first 3 chapters of book 1 are essential, as they review theory, prevention, research, roles etc. A few of the non-clinical questions on the exam were word-for word from this book. I bought these two books late in my studying, otherwise I would have used them from the start. They are ANCC prep books for the exam, duh.

3. Exam-Edge: I bought 10 exams and took around 7. These exams, though wordy, were very helpful for me. Also, some questions from the exam were word-for-word from these exams. They are pricey, but I feel they helped me a lot in passing.

Exam Tips: My exam had 200 questions and I had 4 hours to complete it. The questions were multiple-choice, matching (drag and drop), picture identification, and choose the answers that apply. The test had an option to highlight on the questions, mark questions to come back to at the end, and a cross-out feature to eliminate wrong answers. This was very useful in narrowing down the answers to just two for the questions I did not know. For the picture identification I had derm, eyes, and arthritis. For the choose all that apply” questions, do not panic, as the questions are specific and ask you to choose the exact amount of answers, 2 or 3.

The clinical portion was straight forward. I had questions from all systems, it seemed. Know your first-line treatments for all major illnesses. DO NOT underestimate the amount of non-clinical questions on this exam. Know your theorists (Erikson and Maslow especially). Know the levels of validity for types of research-which has the highest validity in studies. I had to put them in order from highest to lowest (RCT is first, etc.). I was asked this question with different wording several times. Know your ethics definitions (beneficence, autonomy, justice, veracity, etc.). Know nurse practice act, NP role, NP certification (national) vs. licensure (state). Know cultural competence. Know the levels of prevention (primary, tertiary, etc.).

I finished an hour before the time was up and had plenty of time to go back over my marked questions. When I was finished, my screen did not tell me if I passed or not. It only had thank you for taking the exam.” I was terrified that I had failed, so don't worry if your computer does the same. I went to the check-out desk and the lady was so serious and expressionless that I thought I had failed for sure. She printed out my paper and had me sign out. I looked down at the upside-down paper on the desk and read Congratulations, you passed” and was soo relieved! I have been smiling ever since! Whew, what a feeling to have that weight off of my shoulders!

To those of you preparing for the exam, I whole-heartedly know you can pass-if I could pass, so can you! You finished NP school and you're capable and smart. DO NOT GIVE UP!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! I hope this helped. YOU GOT THIS!!

Awesome! Go enjoy some summer~

My test also did the same to me, but I took AANP this month, and after i submitted the test went to the testing center's homepage. What a load off our shoulders!

Thank you! Good luck and let me know if you need help.

Thank you! Good luck and let me know if you need help.

Hi Texas Nurse! I am taking the ANCC soon. Did you all have all types of pictures on the test such as x-rays?

Thanks!

Hi nwylie25,

Yes, I did have x-rays. The pics are very straight forward. They ask about which body part or system the x-ray would be useful for. For example, a pic of the chest: the answer was pneumonia. I never studied x-rays for the exam. I also had identification pics. I had a few derm pics. Know which body part the rash is usually on such as the face or chest and whether it's common in kids or adults. Exam Edge helped me a lot for the identification questions.

I passed my ANCC board on July 2017. I am writing this so that I can help other to pass the board and be optimistics. Here is my study tips

My time frame was 8 weeks.

1) I did Barkley review session. I highly recommend any of the review session. It was very helpful. It covers 85-90% of the ANCC blue print.I studied the manual several times. Barkley had non clinical section on the online ppt link but does not cover everything.

2) I used Leik book for non clinical section, and completed all the questions on the back of the book several times. I would definitely recommend this book. There are some errors in the book though.

3) I did barkley review questions, It was really helpful, also reviewed the pictures on the practice questions book

4) APEA book was very helpful, it had few non clinical sections

5) I googled common eye diseases like glaucoma, papilledema, diabetic retinopathy, skin cancers, BCC, SCC, skin diseases

6) do all the ancc free practice questions, including gero, fnp, ped, psych

6) I reviewed on RCA, QI online using quizlet, hipaa , wikipedia since I did not have ancc yellow book

7) Know the research really well. This link saved me Study Design 1

Hey guys!!!

I passed the ANCC for Primary Care in Nov 2017. I came to this site for moral support many times while preparing for the BIG day. Hang in there guys!!! You can do it. Think positively!! Believe me when I tell you that they want you to pass!!! Here is how I prepared:

I graduated in Aug 2017 and I took the Exam in November. I studied for 5-6 hrs a day, 5 days a week since I worked the other 2 days. I did about 100 questions on those days. Prior to the exam I had done 2500 practice questions.

I used the following:

1) Fitzgerald audio MP3 player and workbook 2016

2) Leik Book ( Awesome book, you have to have it)

3) Winland-Brown Dunphy practice questions and review strategies

4) Barcley practice questions on Professional issues

5) Fitzgerald NP practice book

6) Amelie Hollier practice questions 3rd edition

7) Exam Edge practice questions ( I bought 10)

8) Boards Vitals practice questions

Honestly, the questions on Boards Vitals are hard and are so discouraging but they prepare you. I averaged in the 60's for Board'svitals. The exam is a lot like Exam Edge as far as format. I had pics but they were simple.

Make sure you know your levels of evidence, culture and the professional issues... respite care and so forth

Pray, ask God to guide you and you will do well !!! Have Faith, don't give up and trust me If I can do it so can you !!!

Do you feel Barkley prepared you well? I am getting 78-80% on his DRTs and APEA 76%. I am scheduled to take the AANP exam in 10 days and freaking out. Did you do any other practice questions that seem similar to the exam?
