ANCC FNP Exam

I need some help, feedback, or advice... Maybe just some words of encouragement. I took the ANCC FNP exam today and did not pass.

I have spent 6 weeks studying. I took the APEA Amelie Hollier course, which I thought was fabulous! One that was complete (6wks ago) I came home and re-studied all of her material. I took 2 of her practice tests and 1 predictor test, which I did not do well on but it was early on, so I wasn't too concerned. I also took 10 practice (100 question) tests from familynpprep.com.

My 1st thought is to hurry and try and take the AANP. But, on my results of the ANCC, I actually scored high on the Professional Practice section which makes me think I should stick to the ANCC, not to mention, it's cheaper to retake than to take other test. Plus, I guess I could use the 60days to study that I have to wait to re-test.

Just looking for advice and other's experience, who's taken them recently, how have you done, how did you prepare?

Thanks!!

Were your scores improving on your practice questions? If you haven't get the Leik book. It gets down and dirty with many things Hollier doesn't cover in her reviews (I had her CD's and workbook) and I got several questions over stuff I may not have known had I reviewed it in Leik. The book is only $35-ish and also has over 600 questions in the back. There are occasional mistakes but, honestly, it's not filled with them and it's $35.

You might also try the Q-Bank. I think practice questions were a big help to me because they helped me guide my studying. There's also a podcast that's pretty helpful: Physician Assistant Exam Review. He gets down to the nitty gritty of certain topics also.

I took the AANP and it wasn't easy but I also am not a fan of the non-clinical questions. I wouldn't necessarily take the ANCC again just because you did well on the non-clinical portion. You NEED the clinical information to pass the exam and also to apply it after graduation.

Hoping you pass the next time! Sometimes it's a matter of luck on knowing the questions they ask.

Thanks! I actually ordered the Leik book when I got home today. The tests I was taking, I was scoring around 350 each time, pretty consistent. I'm hoping the Leik book gives me more perspective.

I got a little scared when I saw 350!! Had to remember ANCC has a different grading scale! Ha!!

Again good luck to you! Hope some others who took ANCC can give you more info
