Hello everyone.
I am dying to become a nurse one day but am feeling very hopeless and I don't know if I should keep trying and wasting my time and money on pursuing nursing anymore after this semester. I would like some advice or opinions as to what I should do because I am not sure anymore either
I graduated with a bachelors degree 2 years ago as a health sciences major and took many of the prerequisites during my undergrad but did not too well as I wanted to just pass and get the bare minimum in my sophomore and junior year. During my undergrad 3.5 years ago, I took Anatomy and Physiology I and got a D+. I decided to try and switch my major after that and that major did not require anatomy and physiology but a class called Human Structure function I, similar to A&P with a lab and ended up with a C+. Then I took human structure II and got a D+. At the time I did not know what career path I wanted to pursue at the time of taking these classes and it turns out that human structure and function I or II does not transfer to many schools as A&P.
This fall, I decided to retake A&P II for the first time there. The community college that I took the class at averaged out my human structure I and A&P I grade and it averaged out to be a C in their curriculum. So I took A&P II, but ended up with D+ at the end of the class. I am extremely disappointed and after taking all these anatomy and physiology courses, I don't know if I should try again to do better. What should I do?

I think you need to sit down and figure out why you have an issue acing A&P/human structure courses. Other than these two sets of classes, are you now an all-A student in other courses? Is it something specific about A&P that makes it difficult for you to understand it? Or do you have this difficulty in all classes? That will tell you what you should do going forward. If this is a pattern that you observe in all your classes, then you need to figure out the break down in your studying and learning habits overall. If it's specific to A&P, you have to find out what about A&P you can't get and if there is something missing from your science foundation that's causing that misunderstanding.

I don't think any of us can answer the question for you on whether not you should continue. I do agree with the previous poster about evaluating your overall academic performance to see where the issue may lie. If you do decide to go forward, you should start over from the beginning. A combined average of C in human structure I and A&P 1 is not competitive for nursing schools anyway. I would recommend that you start with an introduction to biology class, then move on to A&P I, and then A&P II. So you're looking at at least 3 semesters to get through the A&P prereqs alone. Maybe even try to take these classes alone so you can concentrate on them. Spend lots of time in the lab and studying. Of course you also have to consider if the A&P classes are such a struggle, how will you do in nursing school, which is much harder? But just because something is difficult does not make it impossible. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I agree with idkmybffjill. You need to sit down and evaluate yourself and see why you are struggling. Are you studying enough? Are you studying effectively? I would recommend to take the class again but before you do, go through Professor Fink's anatomy and physiology playlists on youtube. He posts his actual lectures online and they are beyond helpful. He is the reason I easily achieved an A in both A&P classes. Good luck!
