Anatomy Fall '08...what to expect?

Published

Hi everyone...

So after 2 semesters of college, I'm finally enrolled in Anatomy! At my school you take Anat and Phys seperately...

So.....can anyone tell me what to expect?

I'm enrolled in Stats, Anatomy, English and a PE class to burn off some stress...I won't be working other than as an intern at a hospital once a week.

How much time do you devote to Anat every week?

Does anyone recommend brushing up on some terms during the summer?

Is it wise to study EVERY night? I want to be ahead of the game!

Any info would be great! I can't wait!

Thanks,

Samantha

I'm taking A&P in the fall as wel. I did an online Anatomy class this quarter that was conceived as a Science course for some of the certificate programs. I did it as a refresher course to get some kind of Science in my head before I have to deal with A&P. I just finished the online final for that class. I got a 93% on the final and a 95% for the class. An A...YAY!! I'm thinking I just might e okay in the fall when I take the real thing.

The lab at my school focused mainly on the anatomy portion. We didn't do anything with cadavers and we did *some* dissection (cow's eye, sheep's brain/heart, etc) however most of the learning was spent observing anatomical models. It really helped me to take my camera to lab and take pictures of the models, then I would print them, put them in a binder in one of those sheet protector things and label the parts using an erasable marker that way I could study over and over again.

I also bought the Anatomy & Physiology coloring book LOL (anatomy is seperate from physiology) and it helped me A LOT. They cost $20/ea. at Border's/Barnes & Noble/etc.

Thank you all SOO much! Fabulous answers!

I will look into some books to brush up over the summer. Thankfully, since I intern at a hospital, I understand some terms such as anterior, posterior, etc.

So here's another question....I signed up, along with anatomy, English 1 and Statistics, as well as a PE class where I workout anytime I want to (I thought it would help relieve stress, if I have time), on top of interning at a hospital at least once a week.

Thankfully I don't work, however I know that Anatomy and Stats will take up A LOT of time!! Do you think it's doable? When I look at my fall schedule I freak out! Studying for Anat, and Stats...then thinking about reading a book with an essay due is scaring me!

Don't get be wrong...I usually take 15-17units, however I haven't had less than a B, and I'd like to keep it that way.

What do you think? Doable?? I scheduled Anat to be by itself on school days...that way I can hang at the lab! lol

Opinions?? Thanks!

It's doable. I took anatomy and physiology at the same time (separate classes) and I was fine. I was just studying A LOT. So just expect that. And think of it as practice for nursing school!

It is DEFINITELY doable...this was my schedule for the spring '08 semester:

* A&P II

* A&P II lab

* Into to General, Organic & Biochemistry II

* Principles of Microbiology

* Principles of Microbiology lab

* Death & Dying

If I can handle three science courses (not to mention very time-consuming ones!) and two labs, I have faith in you being able to handle A&P + stats :)

Specializes in Med/Surge.

You know, it all depends on the individual. I took 3 classes last semester because I wasn't sure if I could handle the workload as I had been out of school for over 20 years.

I took psyc., art apprec. and biology. Apparently, I underestimated the amount of time that the art class would take. We were given so much homework and projects that it was ridiculous. I ended up with a B in that class because I didn't turn in 1 assignment. I found that psychology was easy for me and got an A with very little effort. Biology I had to work my behind off and managed an A as well.

Now I know myself better and can kinda sorta figure out what I'm capable of and how I need to study. I also found that talking to instructors and showing interest helps them see you in a better light and makes things easier. I always spoke with my biology teacher after class because she was very worried about everyones grades. There were a lot of people who fooled around in that class and didn't take it seriously and the teacher got mad and I think made the exams harder than they should have been.

If you've taken classes before it will help you figure out how much you can handle. If you only have anatomy and no physiology then I think it will mostly be memorizing the parts? I'm not sure, in my school its done together and I know it will require a lot of study and time.

Sorry for the long post, I hope you get some helpful ideas.:D

I fully agree. A lot depends on the individual and how focused they are. It also depends on the particular combination of courses. 16 credits of easy courses is going to be a vastly different deal from 16 credis of harder ones.
