American nurse to Singapore

Published

Hi,

I'm in need of some advice in regards to International Nursing. My husband is a pilot and we've decided to relocate to Singapore for his job. I have a feeling this will be the first of the many moves we will be making in our new life together and was wondering how to continue to work as a nurse overseas. I'm an American citizen with an Associate Degree in Nursing and have had an amazing 13yr career, most recently working as an International Flight Nurse. I have been looking into the job market in Singapore and am getting rather discouraged. I understand I can work under my husband's work visa, but need a job offer or to be sponsored by a hospital in order to become registered with the Singapore Board of Nursing (SBN). I understand that Singapore requires a Diploma as a minimum educational requirement, but the SBN told me they look at it as a case by case basis. I simply have a few questions that I hope someone can answer...

1. Has anyone been able to find enployment in Singapore as an RN with an ADN? Not just as an enrolled nurse?

2. Can anyone recommend using a staffing agency such as Randstad, or should I go about it on my own?

3. Does anyone know of any other recruitment agencies?

4. Are there any hospitals that offer expat packages?

If I'm unable to work as an RN in Singapore, I would like to use my time there (2yrs) to continue my education, and I've been looking at RN-BSN courses on-line. I would really like to find a program thats quick, affordable and recognized by other countries (ie; AUS, UK, USA), and any information or support would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I know this is an old post, but I'm curious what you ended up doing?

I took the job

worked for a yr and moved to another country where I could not work as a RN so I did volunteer work with the UN

till I fell pregnant and couldn’t continue due to high risk of infectious diseases

was a great experience! Wouldn’t trade it for anything

That's amazing!! I know that was close to 10 years ago, but do you have any pointers on trying to find jobs in singapore / getting your license reciprocity in singapore? Any information would help a bunch! I'm definitely in the same kind of spot you were in. Thanks!!
