American and Canadian RNs

Published

This is by no means a American Vs. Canadian nurses post , I am a UK RN to be , and would like to work both in the USA as well as Canada in a couple years time, I wouldlike to know, what american nurses say are the good things about working in america, and what canadian nurses think are the good things about being a nurse in canada ? : ) this is just so i can get an idea about the positive aspects of working in both countries, as i have heard plenty about the negatives of each and wouldlove to hear what the positives are!

Thankyou all for your help

I'm both:)

Best things about working in the US: the variety of opportunities. It's bigger, so there are way more hospitals and way more schools and way more jobs. If you're interested in pursuing an advanced degree, the US offers more programs. Oh, and they have travel nursing here which can be a nice thing.

Canada's best things: I did feel more respected as a nurse in Canada and I appreciated the healthcare system there. I prefer a unionized job and that's the norm in Canada, though you can find them in the US as well. I also found more stability with my coworkers there, so we actually got to know eachother (I suppose that's the flip side of not having travel nursing). There was less turnover among staff. I also felt that patient care was the most important thing there.
