Hey nurse here, need help!! I went on Birth control when i was 19 to regulate my periods. So i am now 24 and just went off them. I have not gotten my period since the end of Jan. I had my TSH, T4,(were normal)LH and FSH drawn and it showed that i was midcycle but that was like three weeks ago. I have been getting cramps on and off for weeks now. when i was 17 i had an abd. US which showed nothing. I am worried that i will never be normal. any thoughts??

Clearly you need to speak to your primary care physician. You may very well want to seek out a OB/Gyn who specializes in fertility issues. Having said that I think that it is within the variation of normal for it to take three to six months for your periods to return to what is normal for you. Also, if you are dieting, exercising or under an above average level of stress these factors could exert additional influences upon your ovulation cycle.

I did not have a period for months on end when I went of birth contol pills to get pregnant with my son. I had to go the OB/GYN to get hormones for me to start my period. I have taken the pill for seven years and got off of them three months ago and have not had a period since. I would go to my OB/GYN to make sure nothing is wrong, however I would not get too upset about it as many peole experience this after stopping bc pills

TNNurse is right... I experienced the same thing. I was on BC pills for 5 years and when I stopped I didnt have my menses for several months. It wouldn't hurt to mention it your Doc though. Take care.

I have heard that it may take several months sometimes a year before your menstrual cycles become regular after taking birth control pills. My experience was the opposite though. Was put on bc after my second child due to still having an enlarged uterus several months after giving birth. Was on bc for 2.5 yrs and stopped taking them midcycle to try to have our third and got pregnant I think probably the day I stopped taking them. Go figure. My hubby and I must be bunnies.:rotfl:
