AMEDD ECP HELP

I am currently 36 years old, and on active duty in the Army. I am in the process of putting together my packet for the AECP program. I have a lot of my prereqs done, but still need a few. Anyone that has recently submitted a packet, or did the program, could you please give me some help as how to pick a college or community college that will help me. I do not know where to begin to look for a school. This is something I really would like to do, but need all the help I can get to be able to be successful at this. Thanks to you all in advance that responds to this.

I am not involved in the AECP program, but to perform a general search for 2 year nursing programs, you can search the internet. In the Denvr metro area almost all of the community colleges offer an associates of science in nursing. Hope this helps.

I did not do the ECP but I did all my courses for nursing school while with the Army in Germany. I went through Rio Salado Community College in Phoenix, AZ and did everything -- A&P I & II, Chemistry, Micro etc -- online. It also should be very reasonable in price since you are on active duty. If I recall correctly they give active duty the instate rate of around $60 and hour. The website is www.riosalado.edu. If you are okay with online learning it might work for you.

welcome!!! :D first figure out which school you plan to attend (find one that is near-by and is accredited. check your state board of nursing website to figure out if the school is accredited). then talk to an academic counselor in-person. bring any unofficial transcripts you have including from high school to get help with what pre-reqs you will need to complete in order to attend that nursing school. not all schools are alike so not all nursing schools have the same pre-reqs, co-reqs, or other requirements.

if you need help with your package, talk to some prior military or active duty personal on the government and military nursing forum. https://allnurses.com/government-military-nursing/. gl!

Wisconsinbee did you go through that college on E army U (Go Army Ed) or did you pay out of pocket.

I paid for it out of pocket but it seems they work with military often.

Hi there!

I am currently attending school under AECP FY2010 selection. There is a list of approved schools you can request from the program manager (currently, that is SFC Gregory Florey). I assume you have AKO email?

When I requested a list in 2007, I received this reply:(copy pasted) along with two lists.

" I am attaching two lists, one is of schools that have historically been

used and the other is schools that fall into the tuition cap. The only

things that you must keep in mind is that they have to meet the $9,000

tuition cap, they are CCNE or NLN certified, and last that you will be

able to graduate in 24 months or less."

It would be nice if they posted these lists on the site, wouldn't it?

If you only have a couple pre-reqs left, go ahead and submit a packet-I did the first year and got picked as alternate while I finished my last class. Had to apply again the second year, but here I am. Also, being older like yourself, there is the time factor to consider. I will turn 42 three months after graduation Dec 2012, and they are urging(rushing!!) me to sit for the NCLEX (during Christmas and a PCS?) ASAP and report to BOLC before hitting 42, or I will have to do waiver paperwork. So don't waste any time.

To recap, ask the folks at AECP for the current list of approved schools. Be persistent, I began the process in 2007, while still in AITand had to irritate more than a few people to get here.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and best of luck!

@nursejarheadmedic,

May I have the list of approved schools? It would be a great help! My email is [email protected]

I can look though my files for the list if I still have it. Please keep in mind that due to tuition increases, some of those schools (the list was sent to me in 2008) may no longer be under the $9k tuition cap. Someone else with AECP may have a more up to date list.

Thank you I appreciate it. I spoke with SFC McDavitt, she stated that she doesn't have a list. She did give me a few schools she could think of at that moment.
