Am I getting this right? (math/concentration ??)

Doc's order includes wound irrigation with 2/3 strength 3% hydrogen peroxide and normal saline every 4 hours while awake. You will need 60mL per irrigation and will do 3 irrigations during your shift. You will need to prepare 60 mL x 3 irrigations totalling 180 mL. How much stock do you need?

I'm assuming the question is asking how much hydrogen peroxide is needed, right? If so, you would need 120 mls. Is that right?

thanks!

Sounds right to me. Although 'stock' might also include how much normal saline you would need to add. Which I'm sure would be pretty simple for you to figure out :)

yep! Thanks. I just can't figure out what they are actually asking on this question - how the teacher wants it answered anyway.

I answered, "120 mL of hydrogen peroxide, 60 mL of NS."

that is technically correct but if the computer was keyed differently, I'll get it wrong for now but hopefully get credit for it after a manual review. Hate the math questions on the computer based test because you can potentially get it wrong if you don't enter it exactly how it is keyed. 7mg and 7 mg are the same but that space in there will kill ya.

Yeah, that's a problem with the way it's done in school. Luckily, whenever you get a math question on NCLEX (or HESI, or any other standardized nursing exam) it will be very clear what they are asking for. And you won't have to type in the units, just enter the number. No confusion there!
