Am I blacklisted from hospitals in my area?

Published

I was terminated from a local hospital a couple of years ago due to diversion and they informed me I would be placed on the do not hire list. They own approximately 14 hospitals in the state, along with 250+ doctor's offices.

I am in my state's recovery program and doing well. Once my 5 year monitoring is over, the records should be removed from my license.

Does this mean I will be unable to get a job with a different hospital in the area that are not owned by them? I have heard rumors about nurses being "blacklisted" and other hospitals not hiring them because of it.

(I currently have an office job that I enjoy, but may consider going back to bedside once I'm out of the program)

After 5 years of recovery, monitoring, and now a record that has no restrictions and now an Unencumbered license, it's overwhelmingly likely you are going to get a job in your town, and I wouldnt rule out the hospital you were blacklisted at. After 5 years, an Unencumbered license, and proof of sobriety, every thing changes. Are there Some nurse who are kind of blacklisted in their town by all hospitals or offices for a long, long time? Sure, BUT they are the exception to the rule. What mostly holds true is that you can work about anywhere you want, After.....the 5 years are completed.

Are they referring to the OIG list? Would definitely be a good idea to know whether or not you're on that list, since most institutions deal with Medicare/Medicaid.
