Alternate testing for Excelsior

Published

Has anyone had to use an alternate testing procedure for Excelsior? I have always used Prometric but the one closest to my home has closed. When I say "closest" I use the term loosely. Just to take the exam I drive one hour, take a two hour ferry ride, take two buses trips which last just over 1 1/2 hours, and have to repeat the process to get home. Travelling and taking the exam takes the whole day...from 5:30a.m. until about 9 p.m. (due to exam and ferry schedules) Now that site has closed, and the next nearest would add another hour or so and most likely would result in an overnight hotel stay. I only have 2 exams left, and am considering asking for alternative testing, but am wondering what that entails. Has anyone needed to use this option? I don't know if it is worth looking into or not. Thanks for any feedback!

Call Excelsior!!! I called them about driving 2hrs. away and they said that the drive had to be 3hrs. before accomidations could be made. They may let you take it at your local vo-tech or library. That's just crazy what you went thru. CALL THEM

Hi,

I am from Northern Maine and for me to go to the closest Prometric center I would have had to drive 4 hours each way. I called EC, they put me through to Andrew Sherman. He is the Testing Operations Manager. He had me contact a local college to see if they would agree to proctor my exams. He did not recommend a library or adult ed as he preferred that it was an accredited college that proctored my exams. Lucky for me, a local university 1/2 hour away agreed, through their ITV site. The director gave me her info : name ,phone #, address at the college, also e-mail address. I forwarded the info to Andrew at EC and he took care of setting everything up. Contact EC they'll help you.

Thanks for the info. Its too late for my exam next week, but I still have one more exam to do, so I will contact them about an alternate site. I don't know if the closest college will proctor, but I can always ask.

Thanks again!
