Already $60K in Debt? Worth it to get an ABSN/BSN?

Hello Everyone,

Hope this gets some hits :D I already have an undergrad degree (Political Science) and a Master's Degree (Public Administration). Because of this, I am $60K in the hole. So far, I have taken a few prereqs and my GPA isn't as high as I would like to have it. Right now it is 3.0 for prereqs :(

NY state schools (Binghamton, SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Downstate, etc) want like a 3.7 GPA or higher. Is it even worth it to take on who knows how much to get the ABSN or even a traditional BSN? If so, please let me know. Also let me know if there are any funding sources or loan forgiveness!

Anything would be MOST helpful!

With that debt I'd be more likely to get an AD in nursing at a local community college and take the boards after that. There are many options in nursing with the degrees you do have.

You don't a traditional BSN program if a bulk of your credits are recent enough that a ABSN will take them.

Both ADN and BSN programs usually have only a two or two and one half year clinical portion after one is formally admitted to the nursing program. The first month (ADN) or two years (BSN) of these programs are the pre-nursing phase which may cover classes you have taken already in spades. What you probably are missing are the science classes such as A&P, Micro and perhaps Chem.

If the question you are asking is will you be able to find a job right after graduation to make going further into debt worth it, that is something no one can predict. When some hospitals say they want a nurse with a four year degree they mean a BSN, period. Others may be perfectly happy with an ADN grad who has a BS and MS in other areas.

I'd try to find the cheapest but good ABSN program and get the BSN over with as either way you'll be spending about two years in school.

Try egg donation. If you look white, say you are white on your application. $8K in nyc area.
