I am almost at the end of clinicals and will graduate soon (FNP). I'm taking the summer off because my family misses me honestly. After that, I need to start working, but I am also going straight into the DNP portion of my program.

Questions

1. I searched and found a couple of threads on this but they were almost 6 years old, so in today's market: is it possible to start FNP work as a new grad on a part-time basis? by part-time, I'm thinking working 3 days a week, either 8 or 10 hr shifts. Or even weekend only 12 hour shifts.

2. Where do you suggest I start looking at NP job listings? There are many websites, but what have you found to be reliable?

I looked on Indeed.com and it had many listings from local employer's sites. Make sure to check with local urgent cares as they often have 12 hour shifts and might be more willing to do weekend only if that's what you prefer.

I'd apply to any and all just to see what happens and tell them you're interested in part time if possible. Worst that can happen is they say no and it goes no further.

Good luck and congrats! And just so you know it'll take a little while for all of your credentialing and stuff to come through. I graduated 12/13, took my exam 12/30 and passed. Took a month to get my license, couple more weeks for prescriptive authority, another week for DEA, and am still waiting on all of the insurance companies (and Medicare and Medicaid) to give me provider numbers (or whatever it is so I can bill them). My employer is paying for my DEA thankfully and I had to have a collaborative agreement with a MD before I could apply for prescriptive authority.

Basically I'm saying you still have a road ahead of you with paperwork and red tape. It could easily take all summer for you to prepare for your exam, pass, and get your license. I was thinking since I applied for everything months in advance and got everything turned in promptly I could be done within a month or so. WRONG. So wrong.

Yes, I hear the administrative part can take up to 6 months depending on your state. I think an urgent care place would be ideal. I've looked into a couple around here, but they seem to prefer PAs. I think I'll try to change that by applying anyway ;)
