I am the Director of Surgical Services at my hospital and Meditech is the system we use for documentation. Meditech notified us we will have to begin paying a copyright fee for use of the Aldrete scoring system or stop using it. Dr. Aldrete has decided to enforce the copyright for the use of the scoring system he developed. I am wondering what other facilities will be doing? Is there another scoring system out there for use? Will your facility be paying the fee? Thoughts?

Our facility also received notice from Meditech that we would have to pay for using the Aldrete scoring system. It is interesting that I have only heard that Meditech clients have recieved this notice.
We are currently weighing our options.

How were you notified? We use HSM to document but also use Meditech for handoff reports. Sounds similar to the "Braselow" issue.
We were notified via a task that this needs to be changed before our update the end of this month. I am looking for alternative scoring systems that are not similar to Aldrete. I need something in place.

No issues where I am and we use Epic. Perhaps it was just a Meditech problem. MEDITECH - Post Anesthesia Recovery Score Copyright New

It's not just Meditech; we use CPSI and we received notice also. I'm also looking for an alternative to the Aldrete system. Hope someone has a solution.

We were told the same thing, I found out when I started working here and wondered why the wording looked a bit different then what I was use too. :) I was told that they had to make their own scale to avoid paying for copy rights, when I wondered which area to score a patient I was "trained" to think of the Aldrete's and would they be a 0, 1 or 2 and to place the patient in the same (but differently worded) category.
Does that make sense?
