I am a 21 year student that graduates this May from nursing school. After reading multiple stories about students' problems with the Board of Nursing and obtaining their licenses, I'm beginning to gather up all of my papers and prepare myself for the worst.
I was arrested in 2009 (19 years old) for drinking. I completed 40 hours of community service and had a great lawyer that allowed my charges to be dropped. My sentence says "Nolle prosequi" which means "to drop its claims" or "do not prosecute." My criminal history records were expunged in 2009.
I've been researching my state's Board of Nursing website and trying to figure out anything I can do to further delay obtaining my license. So far all I know is to get a certified copy of my court records and final disposition in a sealed envelope from the court to send in with my license application. Is there anything else I should do before I graduate that will help expedite this process?
Any advice? Should I begin applying to hospitals now or wait until I receive my license?
