I did the same type of research when I was applying to schools in Alberta. Unfortunately most schools in Alberta cater more to high school applicants. I remember when applying to MRU the transfer GPA was 3.8 and the high school GPA was 83% as you can see it's much harder to get in with a 3.8 vs a 83% in high school courses.
I'm attending GMU now and very happy with my choice. GMU will accept you if you have a 3.0+ but the trick with that school is applying as soon as possible as because it's first come first serve. GMU also has a January intake.
Goodluck.
The competitive average for MacEwan's BScN program for 'Previous Post-Secondary Work' admission is an AGPA of 3.0 (minimum 24 credits). I got in with a 3.78 and high school average of 82 or 83. For all admission categories, you also need to have certain HS courses.

Hi everyone~
I'm 21 and currently a student at the UofC for Fall 2013 planning on transferring into a nursing program for Fall 2014. I'm really nervous because I need to get my GPA up and I'm not sure if I should continue with taking junior options into the Winter 2014 semester. I have already taken 8 courses at the post-secondary level and now currently taking 5 courses. Over the last 8 courses I've taken before I wasn't sure what I wanted to pursue (between education and nursing) so I didn't do very well.
I was accepted to MRU for Fall 2013 for nursing with my HS marks but I turned it down (due to personal circumstances at the time). I regret what I've done but now I've taken too many post-secondary courses to be considered a HS applicant.
If anyone has been admitted to MRU, MACEWAN, UofC, would you please share your GPA admission grades with me?
I've contacted each school..
MRU told me it's a 3.92
MACEWAN is a 3.0 but I don't think that's the actual admission grade
UofC is a 3.70 but they said it's more like a 3.90
I just need to figure out what my possibility is of getting in after my final grades in December. I will need to make a decision on whether or not I should continue getting my GPA up (adding another half year of post-secondary courses pursuing no actual degree) or to consider another field of study.
I would appreciate any advice or input.
Thanks!
