U.S.A. Alabama

Hi Everyone,

I was just seeing if anyone has received there letters from Shelton State for fall 2011? The waiting is killing me let me know if any of you have received your letter from Shelton State.

Meghantk,

The way I see it, better late than never. Life is too short to not do what you love. I am only 23, and I just told myself I'm too young to come home crying everyday bc I hated my job so much. It just took us a little longer to figure it out. My husband and I moved to Tuscaloosa last June and that's also when I decided this is what I wanted. I too took all my sciences this past year (finishing up a&p 2 now). I know it will be worth it in the end. I also plan on continuing on w/ my bachelors and hopefully master's as well. When I was taking my TEAS, I met 3 or 4 other ladies that had degrees in other areas for years and decided to go back for nursing.

Glad that you finally got your packet! I'm sure that was a relief!

I am an older student also. I am 29. I have three little girls and have been a stay at home mom for a little over 6 years. I have always wanted to be a nurse and my husband talked me into going back to school. I had some of the prereqs. But have spent the last year taking my sciences. I am really lucky to have such a supportive family. I know this is my calling and am so excited and determined to do this.

I took the CPR class today and had a really good time. It was at the FD and the teacher was really good.

Just curious...those of you that had your physical already with the Dr., did you get your hematacrit/hemoglobin checked? I have a friend that got into the program also and she was asking me about it today. There is a spot on the sheet for it and I got mine done but haven't heard anyone else mention it.

Teaton, that's great! We're so lucky to have supportive husbands. It will be difficult for us to balance school and family, but so worth it. I learned how to study wherever, and whenever I had the chance last year, and I've got a couple of crockpot recipes down. Now I'm working on trying a new chore chart this summer. If it works out maybe our place will have a few fewer inches of dog hair on the floor, and the dirty laundry won't be overtaking the entire hallway. A big improvement over last semester! : ) Organization, and time management haven't always been my strong points but I've realized they're skills that can be learned when neccessary.

I was so ready for school to be out in May, but now I'm so excited! Have any of you started purchasing your shoes yet? I'm not exactly sure of Shelton's requirments but I've started looking at the most commonly recommended ones. I want to find a great pair, hopefully at a bargain.

Meghantk...

I hear ya on the organization and chore chart!!! We are really working at it this summer. I am also trying to get a good list of easy recipes to have ready to go. I have learned to study whenever and wherever also. It is not uncommon for me to sit in the Dr.'s office with the girls with a book in hand! How old are your children? Mine are 6, one will be 3 Tues. and 1. It's a lot of work but I am determined to do this!

I haven't purchased shoes either. I went shopping today and thought about it but I knew as soon as I did they would tell me I needed something else. Have you purchased anything else? I am trying to wait until orientation but I guess I am just so excited about it I'm ready to get everything!

What kind of smart device are y'all using? I have an iPhone but not sure if I should use the iPad or iPod touch instead? And when are we supposed to be buying that software? I'm ready for orientation to answer all my many many questions lol. I haven't even thought about shoes yet.

lpr0711...I have an iPhone as well. I checked on the skyscape website and it said that iPhone is fine. The website address was in that packet. I think that we order the software on orientation day. It's listed in the things we have to pay that day so that is what I am guessing. I think there will be so many questions on Thursday! I feel like I am going to leave off something on all this preparing!

Oh ok, thank you!

Me too! I've got to remember to get cash or money order for the scrubs. The fall 2011 schedule is up on shelton's website if you want to get an idea of what our schedule will be like. One of the ladies said that RN has classes on mon & wed and clincals and lab on T/Th. I love that we have Friday's off! We will need it to rest and study.

It's starting to feel so real!!! I'm so excited and nervous at he same time!

I'm so excited, I can't sleep. I'm wasting the night on allnurses : ) I haven't bought anything yet but I am starting to ogle white shoes and stethoscopes. I have an iPad that my inlaw bought me because they thought it would be useful for school. I've been wondering if it might be too big to be convienent sometimes though. I have an iPhone too so hopefully I can run those apps on both/either. I can't wait for orientation tomorrow.

Teaton, I have 2 boys. My youngest is 3 & my oldest is 11. I'm so glad I am getting to spend time with them this summer, especially since we will be in school next summer. I try to remind myself of that when they are driving me crazy ; )

Well I guess tomorrow is the big day! I am so ready! Hopefully I will meet some of you.

I have a question. I know the $45 is recommended for the lunch thing with SSANS. It says bring check along with membership application to SSANS. Is that something we get there tomorrow? Also, is the whole class part of that or just people that apply? What is it and what do they do? Guess that was more than 1 question, ha ha!

Teaton, I was wondering the same thing about the SSANS application. I am assuming they will give us an application to fill out tomorrow? I think the whole class is invited to be a part of it. It is probably just a group of Shelton nursing students and alumni, maybe a resource for people to network? Who knows?

Meghantk, I also have an iphone and an ipad. I have the same concerns about the ipad being too much of a hastle to carry around clinicals w/ me. But at the same time, I am so hard on phones. I am afraid to load the app on my iphone and end up losing/breaking my phone and stuck w/out my app. I hope we can load it on two devices, but I am sure they will charge us double for that.

I had a question about the cashiers check/money order, how much did y'all get it made out for? Do we just add up the totals of what scrubs we want to order and add in tax? And I know they recommend 2 uniforms, so I am ordering 2 pants and 2 tops but not sure if it is necessary to order 2 lab coats? However, they are white so with my luck I will only order one and spill something all over it the first day lol. I might just bite the bullet and get two.
