Air Force San Antonio Military Medical Center

Published

Hi there! I was selected to start air force COT March 30th and then I'll go to SAMMC- ICU. I was wondering about housing. I have three children and their ages are 15, 14, and 5. I am looking for advice on housing either on base or off base and concidering traffic and school system. We are going to be new in the area.

Thank you in advance!

Congrats on your selection! I am no longer active duty, but my spouse is. We live on base at Lackland AFB which is about 20-30 min from SAMMC---depending on traffic. The officer housing is not bad--newer than many other bases I have seen. The main reason I am writing is to let you know about the school. You must live on Lackland AFB to attend, so all of the students are military kids. The teachers we have had are wonderful. The administration is ok at the elementary school, but the Jr.-Sr. High School is really good. It is all one campus and the kids can easily walk to school. We have been here almost one year. I have also heard that Randolph AFB has a really good school, but I don't know anything about the housing. It seems like a really nice base. As far as off base, I have heard that Alamo Heights has a good school system, but is crowded. I hope that helps a little! Good luck at COT!

Thank you!! very good info!! I heard that there is a wating list for housing at Lackland? Do you know anything about it?
