Air Force Nursing Bonus, Student Loan Repayment

I am considering joining the air force as a nurse and I have been told that all slots are full for student loan repayment for this fiscal year (2009). But that the bonus is still available.

I know the new fiscal year starts October of this year. However, my recruiter says that he has heard that there will be no bonus or student loan repayment because of the economy and that they over-did the amt of nurses that they accepted last year. Does any of that sound accurate?

I am also told that I need to give a definitive yes or no on whether I want to join the Air Force before he will even enter my application into the system. He says if I go through the process of getting accepted and then turn it down, then I wasted 4 AFB's time and money.

I am uncomfortable with giving a yes to this before I even get the opportunity to find out about student loan repayment & bonuses for the next fiscal year and before I even find out if I am accepted.

He says if I want to wait to hear about that, it will be December before he knows anything about student loan repayment and then he can enter my app.

Does any of this sound accurate?? Just curious b/c I have no other sources.

Thanks.

Hey, Huggie! Thanks for the response. I will post the questions tonight if I get the chance. I called a recruiter last week and left a voicemail. I haven't heard back yet. I've found a lot of info on this site, but even for questions that I think I have answers to, I know that asking different people gets you different perspectives. And, don't worry about the personal question. I don't mind. Yes, I've applied to prompt cares, nursing homes, pain specialists along with hospitals. I currently have a SC license and have applied for GA. I've had one interview..I repeat one since I graduated. I was told during that interview that the hospital I interviewed for was pretty much the only one in SC hiring right now. Soo, I decided to seek different avenues.

Hello all,

For those that have been accepted to COT, what was your GPA like for your BSN?

Could you please provide an overview of your stats?

Work history, etc..

Or if there is a thread somewhere that already addresses a similar question, could you please link me to it.

Thanks!

So I know I have posted those questions yet. Sorry. A couple reasons for that...first of all, I got busy. Secondly, I did get a call back from the recruiter. We talked a little bit and I asked her what she thought my chances of being accepted were. She said that she was going to be upfront and tell me it was probably going to be difficult. I had like a 3.0 or 3.1 or something from BSN. Because I have no experience, they would base a lot of opinion on the GPA. If I can get experience (even six months), it would significantly increase my chances. Sooooo on to continuing the GA license process.
