Air Force NECP Help!

Published

Hello everyone on AllNurses,

I am A1C Honard! I am pretty new to the Air Force (been in for about 2 years and about to put on SrA) and I just learned that there is a program for Nursing and I am, to say the least, excited about this! I have an endless amount of questions for preparing myself JUST FOR THE PACKAGE! I have read all these posts about people who just graduated and going off to COT amongst other things; however, I could not find anything regarding the package itself or I must of just over-looked it.

As I am well informed about the educational part of the package, such as: pre-reqs, minimum semester hours, GPA, etc.

I need to know, other than an outstanding GPA, what made you stand out amongst all applicants? (people who were accepted into the program)

Volunteering and experience with nursing related things? Are most of the applicants RNs already?

I am a 3M051 in the Air Force (Services) I am very proud of my job. Most would not appreciate being a cook in the Air Force, but I throughly enjoy it. However, my real calling is aiding people in their most vunerable moments and becoming a nurse. Would it have helped my package if I were in a more medical related career field?

I would love some direction on this board. Especially since there are alot of applicants, alternates, and graduates here! Please give me a few tips of advice from the Active Duty stand point, as well.

Thank you so much and BIG thanks for everyone for their service to the world's greatest AF! HOOAH!

What's gonna make you stand out? What always makes you stand out? Extra Curriculars, volunteer opps. Having Firewall 5 EPR's. Letters of recommendation.

I honestly don't know if having a medical career field gives you any boost or not. I was far from a medical background! My first supervisor (did NECP back in 2007) was also far from a medical career field...so if it helps I don't know, but we made it.

The little things make you stand out! Airman of the Month/Quarter, Honor Guard, Awards, etc.

Good Luck!

If you look up USAF NECP on FB, there are both past, current & future NECP'ers that are extremely helpful. Also, you can download this years most recent guidelines, go to the AF portal & type in NECP. Your biggest hurdles are finding a school that meets all NECP requirement s 1st, such as $15,000/year, ROTC detachment, program can be finished in 24 months, etc. once you find those, then I'd start slowly working on your pre-reqs, good GPAs are important and like the other poster said, extra curricular activities, esp squadron, group, wing involvement, quarterly/annual awards etc. I was going to attempt my second try to apply this year (didn't get into my school last year so wasn't able to apply) & was not able to be released from my career field due to under manning for my AFSC.

It's an amazing program, that I hope to be a part of one day! :)
