daz 17 Posts Feb 21, 2001 ok i'll do it an easy way i'll type up the situation hehehe... heres the 1st one... the list of sypmtoms:- mr tom is a 66 year old white male. His WHR is 1.5. he has been DX with Type 2 diabetes and hpertenstion, for which he is taking oral medications. He has been unable to sleep for 3 consecutive nights because he awakens with "feeling i cant get enough air". his sking color is blueish and he occasionally coughs up pinkish sputum. He denies any swelling of his ankles. He states that he has been eating a lot of candy lately to help him stay awake.Do u guys know any ideas what disease/illness he could be having??? 0 Likes

The blue-tint to his skin show he has hypoxemia and hypoxia secondary to his lungs shunting blood and not exchanging 02 (pulmonary edema--lungs full of fluid)--frothy pinkish sputum is also a classic sign of this. With the type II DM history, the gentleman may have had a "silent MI" (no classic symptoms, just feeling short of breath and fatigue) also leading to left-sided heart failure. Eating all that candy certainly hasn't helped, probably hyperglycemic as well. 0 Likes
