I was wondering if any of the agnp's would share what area/specialty they are working in. I see a lot of positions posted in my area for adult, family, or acute np's. I'm just curious as to what positions the agnp's have since that's my concentration.
Thank you!

I work in palliative medicine.
Did you start out in palliative care? I have thought about it since working in the icu. We had a palliative care np and I found it interesting and liked the relationship that was built with the family. Would you recommend a new grad start out there?
I did start out as a new grad NP. I too worked in ICU and it provided an easy transition and made me marketable in the field. I can only speak for my experience, but I had a great collaborating MD that nurtured my growth. I think you need a wide knowledge base and it helps having time to sit and review the charts and speak with the rounding specialists as this will help hone your knowledge. It can be emotionally draining at times but I think its less stressful in some regards than primary care where you are constantly concerned with productivity and 15-minute visits.
I also obtained a part time position in an outpatient medical practice to stay current with primary care.

I know my classmates have been able to get jobs in primary care, geriatrics, nephrology, cardiac cath lab, oncology, a lot with hospital positions. I got a job in a hospital in the endocrinology service with an eventual piece of my role seeing outpatients. There are jobs for AGNPs despite the widespread communication I hear ( and I'm sure most NP students hear) that FNPs are more marketable.
