If you accept an assignment at a facility that has computer charting and uses pixis or the like for meds , but have no experience with either and have only worked in facilities that have paper charting and give meds the old fashion way(med carts and narcotic cabinets with keys) will the facility orientate you on these things? What about sign in names and codes, will they give these to an agency(temporary) employee?

Have only been to a couple of places where they actually gave you orientation on the computer stuff. Depends on the facility and usually how good their overall education program is and also if they have every gotten dinged by JCAHO for lack of orientation for agency/float nurses. I have never had a hospital that DIDN'T give me username and passwords for the computer as well as med vending machine. You always have to sign their little privacy agreement. Some hospitals have given me a permanent vending machine code, others enter you into the machine temporarily for each shift that you work. Usually the charge does this. Once you get accustomed to how they and the computer system works, it is generally fairly easy to navigate the other brands of those machines.
