Agency Advice

Hello, I just got my LPN license a month ago but I am having a really hard time finding a job that isn't in a nursing home. It seems like my options are limited to a nursing home or an agency. I have no clue what its like to work for an agency and I'm terrified of being just thrown out there. And I have also been told that regular on staff nurses can be mean or cold toward agency nurses. So, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to look for in an agency or any advice about finding a job in general. Thank you so much.

As a new nurse I would be hesitant to do agency and would be leary of the agency that would hire you with no experience. If you were to do agency you would be thrown in to a floor with no orientation and it would be expected for you to take a full patient load and know exactly what you're doing. I know it's hard for LPNs and I was a lucky one. Not sure where you are in OK but might consider a dr's office? I know I see lots of listings online for LPNs for those. Also, depending on where you are, the OU clinic in Tulsa and OKC always have openings for LPNs and pay is pretty good too - can't beat the hours either! If nothing else, I know the IV team and dialysis at my hospital hire LPNs. In fact, all the dialysis centers hire them.

Good luck!
